Making diversity visible in often unrecognised family practices

This article makes a small contribution to Families, Relationships and Societies’ knowledge production. It addresses racialised ethnicised inequalities experienced in the everyday lives of family constituted through serial migration, where adult interviewed (‘Lizzie’) reflected on her childhood experience leaving Caribbean join parents she did not remember siblings had never met. reuses material from larger study retrospective narratives adults who been migrants. A major finding is that Lizzie’s migration was intersectional, linked social positioning experiences racism at school felt outsiderness home contrast feelings belonging being valued Black-led church attended. The argues that, while such are frequently unrecognised, they pattern children’s experiences, their relationships identities contribute to, arise from, historical sociostructural constructions society.
